One academic semester including summer sessions (can be extended for
another semester)
Required Number of Hours per week: 7-10
Current Openings: summer 2013, fall 2013, and spring 2014 (multiple positions available)
Minimum Requirements: Applicants must have graduate student status, a cumulative GPA equivalent to
or greater than 3.0, and must have been enrolled at UK for at least one semester. This position requires flexibility and
the ability to take initiative and work well with minimum supervision. Applicants
must have strong organizational and
interpersonal skills as well as a high level of enthusiasm about event programming and cross‐ cultural activities. Effective verbal and written communication
is essential for the position’s day-to-day tasks; applicants must
additionally be confident in their
presentation skills and display a commitment to learning more about leadership opportunities. Overall awareness of campus resources and new student issues
is desired. Applicants should be somewhat flexible and willing to schedule work hours
around program needs. The
ability to work as a team player with International Student Ambassadors, staff, and faculty
is essential. A Kentucky driver’s license and willingness
to drive UK 12‐passenger vans is strongly encouraged as well as the ability to carry boxes weighing up to 25 pounds short distances, including up/down stairs.
Required Education: Currently enrolled in a UK Graduate
Program (master’s or doctoral level) with a strong interest in working within
the field of international student services.
Course Credit (3.00 credit hours): Available through the
College of Education (EPE790 Internship with Dr. Goldstein)
Required License/Registration/Certification: Valid Kentucky driver’s license
& UK passenger van certification (may be
completed after hiring)
Shift: Times will vary depending upon programming
needs. Hours can be arranged
around the student’s schedule, but s/he must be available
some days during
blocks of time between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00
p.m., as well as during late afternoon, evening and weekend hours.
Job Summary:
This is a project-based internship and
student will be assigned a project to complete within the semester with
assignments and responsibilities and regular meeting with a faculty member in
the student’s specific graduate program. Projects
vary based on student experience, interest and needs of the office during the
time period in which the internship will take place. In addition, each intern will be assigned a “focus-area” in
which he/she will think critically and contribute to further development of the
following areas; a) new student services, b) international student
services & programming, student retention, marketing and communications
Skills/Knowledge/Abilities: Organizational skills, public speaking, and the ability to take initiative and work well with
minimum supervision. Must have an interest in international students, programming, and cross‐cultural
activities and be sensitive to international students from varied cultural, economic, and educational backgrounds. Knowledge of Microsoft Office
tools (PowerPoint, Word, Excel, and Publisher), Prezi, Adobe Pro to develop fliers and brochures, social media (Facebook and Twitter).
Preferred Education/Experience:
Strong interest in the field of International Education
and specifically International Student Services. The ideal candidate will also have
experience in
leadership, service-learning, development, cross-cultural programming or marketing.

Highlighted Courses in EPE Sum/Fall 2013
EPE/EDP 660- "Research Design and Analysis in Education"- Taught by Dr. Kelly Bradley on Wednesdays from 9AM-3PM with an optional work day on Mondays during the 4 WK Summer term. This course is a study of the research methodologies applicable in several areas with an emphasis on the design of research and analysis of accumulated data. Topics to be covered include simple linear regression, multiple regression, interactions, logistic regression and analysis of variance. General goals of the course include: expanding understanding of statistical concepts and improving reasoning and critical thinking skills. Six seats remain in the EDP section of this course.

KY Foreign Language Conference this week at UK

The 66th Kentucky Foreign Language Conference (KFLC) is now 2 days away.
As the coordinator of the East Asian Studies sessions of the KFLC, I am writing today to share with you a number of exciting announcements. 1) EAST ASIAN STUDIES KEYNOTE WORKSHOP*:* "*Precarity: A Workshop with Professor Anne Allison.*" Place: Patterson Office Tower, 18th Floor F-G. Date/Time: Friday April 19, 2PM. Attached please find an abstract for the workshop along with three readings which Professor Allison (Cultural Anthropology and Women
's Studies, Duke) has graciously provided. Discussion will be guided by these readings, so please read them ahead of time. Even if you cannot read them, please come to the workshop. As many of you may know, Professor Allison is such an engaging, insightful, and friendly speaker; in this workshop, she will address issues of precarity that are applicable to all of us across disciplinary and geographical boundaries. Ping Doctoral Research Fellowship
CIEE is pleased, once again, to offer the Ping Doctoral Research Fellowship

undergraduate study abroad. CIEE invites Directors of Graduate Studies (or in the absence of a Director
of Graduate Studies, a department chair) to nominate a qualified doctoral
candidate for a Ping Fellowship. These fellowships, funded through a small
endowment, are named after Dr. Charles Ping, president emeritus of Ohio
University and a long-time former chairman of CIEE’s Board of Directors. During the 2013 - 2014 academic year, CIEE will provide one $20,000 Ping
Doctoral Research Fellowship to an outstanding doctoral candidate focused
on U.S. undergraduate study abroad. This year we would also be pleased to
receive applications that are focused on undergraduate study abroad and
