COUNCIL ON POSTSECONDARY EDUCATION
POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT

Title of Position: Specialist
Type of Position: Full time non-merit employee with state benefits
Starting Date: Open until filled, 1st review of submissions October 7, 2011
Compensation: $32,000 starting salary, with a 5% increase after the successful completion of a six month review period

This position will report directly to the Senior Vice President for Budget, Policy, and Planning. The Specialist will support the calendaring, communication, report assimilations, provide research, and perform other operational and administrative duties for the Senior Vice President, as well as 9 other staff members. The Budget, Policy and Planning unit is largely responsible for the Council’s new strategic agenda implementation. The Specialist will work with teams of CPE and institutional staff to track the progress toward 2015 goals. Stronger by Degrees.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Provide administrative support to the Senior Vice President and Budget, Policy, and Planning’s central staff, which may include the responsibility for internal and external meeting requests, travel arrangements, correspondence, calendaring, phone calls, office organizational file maintenance, etc;
  • Conduct research as requested in preparation for meetings, phone calls, official reports, and business trips;
  • Draft and/or edit correspondence on behalf of senior personnel, including the Senior Vice President of Budget, Policy, and Planning;
  • Maintain a high level of knowledge about budget, policy, and planning functions and activities in order to respond to internal and external inquiries for information;
  • Prepare PowerPoint and other graphics for reporting or presentations;
  • Support staff in preparation for all meetings, including development of PowerPoint and technical needs for the meeting;
  • May assist with the development and/or maintenance of CPE SharePoint sites for internal and external member usage;
  • Design, maintain, and update electronic files, databases, etc for reporting, analytical, and retention purposes;
  • Develop and maintain customer service relations with key partners, agencies and organizations critical to the achievement of the Council’s policy goals;
  • Gather and provide data for delivery unit on all priorities;
  • Complete special projects as assigned by any level of CPE leadership; and
  • Respond to information requests and perform other duties as assigned.

Required:

  • Baccalaureate degree; may substitute a combination of an associate’s degree and/or work experience.
  • Must have three years of professional, administrative or business experience; may substitute additional education for years of experience;
  • Proficient software skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint;
  • A mix of strong organizational, writing, and communication skills; 
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a desire to work as part of a team and to interact with the higher education community;
  • The ability to prioritize competing demands in a changing, collaborative environment; and
  • Strong follow-through skills and attention to detail, especially under deadline pressures;
Preferred:
  • Experience with budgeting or financial data; or
  • Experience with higher education.
