Graduate Student conference opportunity in Shanghai

An invitation to UK graduate students

The American Studies Program invites four graduate students to participate in the 2013 International Graduate Student Conference. It will be held at Shanghai University, June 28-June 30. Lodging and meals will be covered by Shanghai University; we anticipate being able to fund all or some of the airfares.  If they wish, students can travel to other parts of China either before or after the conference.

Those graduate students selected to participate will be representing the UK American Studies Center at Shanghai University. Now in its second year, this initiative continues to foster academic and cultural exchange between the two universities. For more information about the Center, go to http://americanstudiescenter.as.uky.edu/

Conference theme: “Asia in a Global Context”

The conference aims to promote an interdisciplinary and cross-cultural dialogue about Asia’s past and present. Graduate students selected by the American Studies Program will be asked specifically to present papers that explore specific interrelationships between Asia and the United States.  We welcome submissions from graduate students across disciplines and fields. (Papers will be delivered in English.)

Proposal Submission: Please submit a 250-500 word proposal by March 22, 2013 to Prof. Andy Doolen andy.doolen@uky.edu.   Feel free to email if you have any questions about whether your topic would be appropriate for the conference.
Conference Organizers: Shanghai University, University of Kentucky (American Studies Program), National Taiwan Normal University, Hankuk (Korea) University, University of Macao, University of Wyoming, and National University of Singapore
