Upcoming Graduate School Workshops

Please find informatin about upcoming Graduate Student workshops below:

Creating Grading Rubrics to Evaluate Student Work and Provide Useful Feedback
Tuesday, October 11, 5:00 - 6:30 p.m., White Hall Classroom Building, Room 208
A common complaint from TAs is the amount of time it takes to grade papers, and often students make the same types of mistakes.  One tool that can be very effective for all instructors is to develop a scoring rubric for each assignment.  This workshop will provide you the opportunity to develop an effective scoring rubric. Please come with an assignment in hand, if available. Led by Dr. David Sacks, Faculty/Instructional Consultant, The Center for the Enhancement of Learning and Teaching (CELT)

Advice for New International Teaching Assistants: A Panel Discussion
Thursday, October 13, 5:00 until 6:30 p.m., White Hall Classroom Building, Room 110
A panel of 5 experienced international TAs will discuss their experiences of adjusting to the American culture and classroom and will answer questions from the audience.  This session is a follow-up to the panel discussion that occurred during the ITA Orientation in August.  All first-year international TAs are encouraged to attend.  To enrich the discussion, experienced ITAs and international faculty members are also welcomed.  If you have specific questions you would like for the panel to address, we invite you to submit them in advance by emailing Dr. Morris Grubbs at morris.grubbs@uky.edu.

Managing the Stresses of Graduate Student Life and Work
Wednesday, October 19, 5:15 to 6:15 p.m. in White Hall Classroom Building, Room 212
This session, led by Dr. Felito Aldarondo of UK’s Counseling Center, will help you identify stressors in your work-life and provide advice about finding a healthy and productive balance to achieve success as a graduate student.  Even if stress is not currently a concern for you, you will learn techniques that may be valuable later as your studies, teaching, or research intensifies.  The session will be informal, and your questions will be welcomed.  If you have specific issues you would like addressed, we invite you to submit questions in advance by emailing Dr. Morris Grubbs at morris.grubbs@uky.edu
