doctoral research opportunity in New Zealand

Dr. Katherine McCormick asked that you receive word of this fellowship opportunity.
She is willing to assist with the service learning component.

By using Tulane's post-Katrina focus on community engagement as our inspiration, the
University of Canterbury in Christchurch, New Zealand has sought to implement
service-learning across the institution as our response to the devastating
earthquakes that rocked our city in 2010 and 2011. As part of our efforts, we have
an amazing opportunity for a PhD student to conduct research on the connection of
higher education, service-learning, and natural disasters through a $60,000
scholarship that includes tuition and living expenses for 3 years. Please consider
this quickly as we need to have expressions of interest by October 14. Enrolment
start date can be flexible.

Potluck concerns

Greetings, everyone.

Some of you have expressed concern about tomorrow's pot luck--especially about violating the rules of a kosher household.

I just a had a conversation with Beth about this.  Her advice?  "Bring anything you like.  We have everything we need by way of utensils and such."  And then she added, "we're also 'vegetarian-leaning,' if not strictly vegetarian."

Hope this helps.

Hope to see you tomorrow.

Richard

Publication Opportunity for Graduate Students

Higher Education in Review (HER) is pleased to announce its call for papers. HER is an independent, refereed journal published by graduate students of the Higher Education Program at the Pennsylvania State University. Our mission is to make a substantive contribution to the higher education literature through the publication of high-quality research studies, scholarly papers, and literature reviews in areas related to the university, the four-year college, the community college, and other institutions of higher learning. In so doing, we provide graduate students first-hand experience with the publishing process.

Our print journal is distributed to leading higher education graduate programs nation-wide and is electronically available, free of charge, on our web site. We also publish additional original content online at www.higheredinreview.org. First authors must be currently-enrolled graduate students or have written their manuscript during graduate school. Graduate students from a variety of disciplines and fields (e.g., education, sociology, economics, law, and psychology) are encouraged to submit their work for consideration. Submissions are accepted year-round. Please contact us at HigherEducationInReview@psu.edu with any questions you may have regarding Higher Education in Review. We look forward to receiving your submission!

Manuscripts should include a clearly specified research question, present a theoretical or conceptual framework, employ appropriate research methods, and contribute knowledge to the body of higher education literature. Pieces submitted for publication in print and online are subject to the same editorial review process and the same high standards for scholarship. We simply consider different types of submission for each medium and generally will not entertain the same piece for both print and online publication.

For Guidelines for Submissions and for additional information, please visit http://www.higheredinreview.org/in-the-news/hercallforpapers

Submit manuscript to HigherEducationInReview@psu.edu with the subject heading
"Submission for HER Online".
