EPE Graduate Student Council January Update

Good Morning, EPEers!

Hope everyone is having a good semester so far! Here is an update on what we have been up to, including upcoming events planned for this semester.


Review & Reminders


> Thank you to everyone who attended the graduate student lunch and job talk colloquium with the first quantitative faculty candidate. Keep an eye on your email for information on the remaining candidates.

> February 20th is the last day to apply for May graduation.

Dr. Kelly Bradley will talk to graduate students about the job search process post-graduation. Other topics and workshops to be announced.

> February 17, 5:30pm - Non-Specialist Communication Workshop

For Hill Day participants and non-participants alike, the Graduate Student Congress and the Graduate School are sponsoring a special workshop to learn more about distilling your message and communicating specialized research to non-technical audiences.  Please watch for more information regarding this workshop in the days to come.

> February 27, 8am-12pm - UK Graduate Student Day (Hill Day) in Frankfort

The theme is research that impacts Kentucky and Kentuckians.  Although
poster-style presentations will be the norm for this event, other formats
may be possible. The aim is to represent the current exciting research across the disciplines. All graduate students, regardless of discipline, whose research is
Kentucky-centered, and who has a poster prepared or will prepare one for
the event, may apply to participate.

> March 3-4 - Dr. Shibana Mir's Visit

EPE, Women and Gender Studies, and the Sociology departments are hosting Dr. Shibana Mir. She will be presenting her research on Muslim women's issues. More information to come.

> March 28, 8am - 4:30pm - Spring Research Conference
University of Louisville University Club (200 E Brandeis Ave)

Colleges of Education graduate student research conference sponsored by UofL, UK, and the University of Cincinnati. Free for all students, faculty, and staff.

Learn and grow as a beginning researcher!
Gain research conference experience!
Present research proposals, work in progress, completed work!
Get constructive feedback from faculty and peers.

> April 14, 6:30pm (Tentative) - Charter School Panel with Public Q&A

Taylor Education Bldg Auditorium

The Graduate Student Council, in partnership with the Students For Education Reform, will host a four-person panel discussion of school choice and charter schools. The discussion will include opportunities for questions from the audience. This event is free and open to the public. More information to come.
