Associate Director of the UK American Studies Center in Shanghai
This is a unique opportunity for graduate students at the University of Kentucky.
The UK American Studies Center in Shanghai, China is soliciting applications for Associate Director for academic year 2012-2013 (tentatively Aug-May). The Associate Director will be in residence in Shanghai. This position will be responsible for administering the American Studies Center on the Shanghai University campus; fostering cultural and academic exchange between UK and SHU; hosting visiting speakers; and expanding undergraduate study opportunities for UK and SHU students.
Currently in its inaugural year, this initiative is bringing UK’s unique expertise in American Studies to Shanghai, China, particularly in Appalachian Studies, geography, oral history, literature, African-American culture, and women’s studies. The major activities during the first two years of the project may include all or some of the following: lectures and discussions by UK faculty, arts and archives exhibits, film showings, musical performances, and a U.S. - China Summit for UK and SHU students.
Qualifications: Candidates must be graduate students in good academic standing at the University of Kentucky. Expertise in Chinese culture and proficiency in Mandarin is welcomed but not required.
