The University of Kentucky First Scholars Program is currently seeking a Graduate Student Worker for the 2012-13 academic year. The Graduate Student Worker will be responsible for overseeing various aspects of the First Scholars Program. The First Scholars Program is available to Kentucky high school graduates that are first-generation college students (parents did not continue education after high school) who enroll at the University of Kentucky full-time as a freshman. Twenty students are selected annually to participate in a comprehensive support program including academic, social, and personal development.

 Applicants must have completed a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in the fields of education, higher education administration or leadership, college student personnel, psychology, and/or sociology and plans to attend the University of Kentucky as a graduate student during the 2012-13 academic year. Applicants should have a desire to work in the field of academic support services and the ability to work with diverse student populations, including low-income, first generation, and students with disabilities. Those interested in the position should possess excellent written and oral communication skills, as well as, excellent organizational skills and the ability to create and manage spreadsheets.
Job responsibilities of this position include:
 * Provide comprehensive needs assessment, academic planning, and on-going monitoring of participants' progress
* Manage and maintain confidential participant activity records
 * Assist with data collection, assessment and development of mid-year and annual reports.
 * Supervise and serve as mentor to the Pay-it-Forward Office Assistants
* Conduct research and benchmarking for f student development policies and procedures
 * Work several special events that may occur on nights and weekends

This part-time position will pay $12-15 per hour for approximately 10 hours per week. This is a part-time employment opportunity that does not include tuition assistance or an assistantship.
